Landscapes and Expressions of Northern Ontario
OPENING SATURDAY JULY 29TH, 2023, 5-9 PM
EXHIBITION CLOSES AUGUST 19TH, 2023.
Artists Anne Winkworth, Nicole Sutherland and Sue Lewis are all Canadian artists that share passion for the Boreal landscapes of Northwestern Ontario that surround Thunder Bay.
THE EXHIBITION INCLUDES OVER THIRTY MAJOR PAINTINGS FROM THE ARTISTS’ MOST RECENT WORKS.
Anne Winkworth
Anne is a lifetime artist, having created artforms in diverse and varied mediums.
Most recently Anne has focussed on exploring colours and design through acrylic
and oil mediums, creating interpretations of the landscapes of Northwestern
Ontario. Her paintings are colourful and expressionistic vignettes of the boreal
forest and the beauty of Lake Superior. They resonate a cheerfulness through
the utilization of bold and harmonious colours, strong contrasting shapes and
attention to design relationships.
“I identify with country life and being creative is at the very soul of my nature. Thankfully in Northwestern Ontario, opportunities for creative inspiration are everywhere you look."
Sue Lewis
Sue is a long time artist who has been painting in many mediums throughout her
life. She aspires to create energy and depth in her paintings through layers and
textures that reveal the history of the work.
Sue has recently returned to Thunder Bay and is excited to depict the
surrounding natural beauty through the many layered effects of cold wax and
oils. At times her work leans toward the representational and at other times it
moves into the abstract.
“Ultimately I reach for the energy, the feeling, and the magic that can be
experienced through the creative interpretation of Northern Landscapes.”
Nicole Sutherland
Nicole Sutherland is an artist from NorthWestern Ontario, Canada. She
specializes in painting brightly coloured landscapes in oils. Nicole studied at the
University of Manitoba where she received her Honours Degree in Fine Art. She
has also worked as a Graphic Designer for many years.
“I love being surrounded by the sights, sounds and smells of the forest and then
incorporating that into my paintings. I have found that no matter how you receive
nature or art - there is no mistaking that it is right for the soul.”
