BRENDA HURLEY
ABSTRACTED WHIMSEY
OPENING FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20TH, 6-9 PM.
EXHIBITION CLOSES OCTOBER 2ND, 2024.
The primary focus of my work is to showcase the beautiful and varied landscapes of Canada, and particularly Northwestern Ontario. I work with traditional oils; the buttery texture of the medium and vivid, consistent colour inspires me to paint. I enjoy finding the hidden nuances of movement and colour within the seemingly ordinary landscapes I experience or capture in a photograph.
I enjoy working with strong, bright colour and dynamic brush strokes to reflect a joyful and somewhat whimsical version of what nature has provided as my subject.
The Northwestern Ontario landscape where I live inspires endless compositions. The abundance of colourful foliage and vistas lend itself to my evolving style. I work quickly with a wet-on-wet technique and enjoy working with larger canvases that allow me to capture and reflect a sense of movement and space that I see in nature into my work.
I have recently added florals to my art practice. My technique allows me to paint the essence of the garden with a fun and joyous twist hopefully leaving the viewer with a sense of happiness.
