Co.Lab Gallery presents
LAURA PAXTON
SAUDADE The Love That Remains
OPENING FRIDAY, JUNE 14TH 7-10pm
CLOSES JUNE 30TH, 2024.
SAUDADE is a word that holds a feeling of longing, loss and profound nostalgia.
It is an emotional state with the presence of melancholy; a tugging or longing for something or someone that is absent.
Paxton explores all possible avenues and meanings of this word through her works in SAUDADE. Her explorations in light, through lens or on canvas allow for a new meaning to emerge. Saudade can be lightness. Saudade can honour and relieve.
BIO
Paxton attended Fanshawe College for Fine Art and followed that with Photography. She graduated the program in 2010 and has been shooting professionally since.
“My style could be described as a mix of candid/photojournalistic/modern.
As a mother of two living and working as a full time photographer in Thunder Bay, ON. for 15+ years, Paxton enjoys being creative with her photos – “My goal is to tell a story through imagery. I like things with a retro or vintage feel. I am nostalgic and sentimental. I love the thought that a photograph preserves an exact moment in time.
