Give & Take is an exhibition of works by three outstandingly accomplished artists who happen to practice their craft not only in their studios but on the bodies of their clients. Vicki Nerino, boyRoland and Dave Mancuso come together in their first joint art exhibition with works that occupy and enact stories that reach off the pages of sketch paper or skin to play a traditional role as works of art.

At Finders Keepers Tattoo art is produced gracefully. The environment encourages a spore-like transfer and provides an incubator for making all kinds of stuff, all of the time. One such incubator was the creation of a draw club, where the three artists began working collaboratively in a shared space. They were able to loosen their artistic knots and enjoy just being artists together. 

Still. The works emerge as delicate, controlled and highly illusionistic pieces with a completeness that is undeniable.  One thread ties them together- an ability to create by pulling from an imaginary third space in which surreal and subversive narratives are entwined. 

Draw club brought about new custom tattoo designs, flash, illustration, painting, carving, sculpting, graffiti, even noodling around with sound + video. It created a cozy space for art nerds where iron sharpens iron. Real recognizes real. An artistic think tank was spawned.

Tattoos as a form of art are essential to their practice, keeping the artist connected to the wearer. This aspect alone sets tattooing apart from any other form of art. It can be the most intimate, connected and permanent kind of art available to us.

The ultimate pursuit for this kind of artist, one who walks in many shoes, is the harmony of artistic freedom upon the aspirations of the canvas. Tattooers by trade, artists at heart.

Give & Take aims to demonstrate how three individualistic artists can come together as one, to enjoy their practice with a renewed vigor.
